Our Gymkhana at the National Society Epilepsy Centre was a great success. The weather was fantastic being very similar to last year. Hopefully we shall see full writes in the near future. I would especially like to thank Sandra Stuart and David Smith for all the hard work they put into this event. Also I would like to thank all the participants and spectators for taking part and watching respectively on the day. Congratulations to Bill Smallwood and his partner Richard Vodden for winning the SGT Trophy for the event. My natural modesty forbids me for mentioning the couple that came second. It’s enough to say thanks to Viv for being such a good co-pilot on the day!

This month we have the Brighton Speed Trials – an event not to miss. This is an occasion that is becoming progressively more popular each year. For interest do a web search for the Brighton Speed Trials and see what you find, you will be surprised. Hopefully I will have my normal top-flight team of mechanics on hand so please come down to support us. The best way to go is to drive to the Brighton Marina and then park in the free multi-storey car park. It is then an enjoyable walk back along the seafront to the Brighton Pier and the entrance to the Trials. It is possible to watch the trials from street level for nothing but for us petrol heads the trials are best enjoyed in the paddock and at the start line. Of course for partners that are not much interested in the vast range of cars and bikes competing then the Lanes and Royal Pavilion are only a short walk away – a perfect day out for everyone! Each year we get more supporters down – locally and far and wide. This makes for a party atmosphere – the more the merrier. I hope to see you there!

Morgans at Brooklands
Saturday 16th August 2003

After all the months of planning, by the time you read these notes, the ‘Morgans at Brooklands’ event will be history!  Due to printing deadlines for Miscellany we cannot have a report on this day until a future edition, but Ian Sollen has asked me to thank on his behalf, and on behalf of those charities benefiting from your efforts, all those who actively participated in the event and those who turned up on the day to add their support.  Hopefully you should all also have had a great time.  Ian has asked that if anyone has any comments, photographs, or stories on the day to contact him, preferably by e-mail at morgansatbrooklands@hotmail.com, or telephone him at 01923 773246

(We wish to point out that this event has no connection with any other events held previously at Brooklands by any other Centre)

The Malsters Arms, Rotherfield Greys
Sunday 28th September 2003

Our walk this month can include a visit to the National Trust’s Greys Court, with its surrounding estate land. The walk will start and end at the Maltsters Arms pub at Rotherfield Greys. The pub is situated on an unclassified road two and half miles from Henley. If you happen to approach via Greys Green, look for the war memorial and follow the road signposted to Greys church. The walk is covered by OS Map Landranger series 175 Reading and Windsor (GR 726824). There is a good car park at the pub and there is roadside space near the church.

The length of the walk is four and a half miles and takes in woods, fields, meadows and some exceptionally fine views. The going is easy with very little in the way of hills to climb.

We shall meet at the Maltsters Arms at 10:30 am and we shall be back in time for lunch at the same pub. In the afternoon it will be possible to visit Greys Court for those interested. I hope to see you there.

See you all soon.
