I would like to thank everyone that came down to Hayling Island to help celebrate Brian Miller, Sandra Stuart and my own birthdays, Brian shares the same day as myself while Sandra is a week or two later. Quite a coincidence, it must have been all those Christmas black-outs we had a few years ago! In particular I would like to thank Brian’s wife Ann for the fantastic Morgan cake she did for us – it was just amazing! It also tasted fantastic! Ann worked very hard on the cake indeed, I know everyone that had a piece enjoyed it very much! Full details will be presented in full colour in an edition of the Thames Valley newsletter soon. Hopefully a wide-screen photo of the cake will appear on our web site as well very soon!

Our trip to the Peak District was very enjoyable and at times moderately exciting, thanks are due to Brian Miller and family for organising a great weekend. Full details of our adventures will appear in one of our newsletters hopefully soon. We hope to make the August bank holiday weekend an annual outing for the Centre. Next year Brian is planning a long weekend in the New Forest. As long as there is a waterfall to climb I shall be there!

This month we shall be making our annual trip to the London to Brighton Veteran car run. Sussex is such a fortunate County: it has the Festival of Speed, the Goodwood revival, the Brighton Speed Trials and the London to Brighton Veteran car rally. These are all events not to be missed. I hope to see you there!

This month’s walk aims to climb one of the most magnificent summits in the Chilterns!

A Walk from Butler’s Cross and/or Noggin

Sunday 28th November 2004

Our walk this month will begin and end at the Russell Arms public house at Butler’s Cross near Wendover. The pub is one and a half miles west of Wendover on the B4010. The walk is five miles long and takes in a gentle climb to the top of Coombe Hill enjoying the varied beauty of its green slopes. At the summit some of the finest views in the Chilterns can be enjoyed. We shall meet at 10:30 at the pub’s car park. If you would just like to join us at the pub just for a noggin we should be back about 13:00. The pubs on our walking tours are normally very good so the Russell Arms will be well worth a visit judging by past experiences.

I hope to see you there.
