I would like to thank Sexmog for joining us on our walk at Devil’s Dyke back
in December. We had a great turn out and for the most part we enjoyed glorious
sunshine although it was a little windy at times. A good number of us made it
to the top of Truleigh Hill with its fine views across the sea, downs and
weald. Unfortunately we lost our photographer early on; however our roving
reporter Heidi Miller will be providing a full write of this expedition in our
Thames Valley Centre newsletter very soon.
We have some interesting updates on our website. The
Centre Christmas dinner photos are there along with the Goodwood revival
meeting, the Brooklands event and our trip to Fawley. Gerry Burkitt has
provided some excellent racing shots that are well worth a look at. I would
like to thank all our contributors to the site. Our very own super heroes,
Kathie and Bill Smallwood, at least judging by the Christmas card I received,
have provided a rather interesting file of photographs. Please have a look
when you can find the time. If you would like to submit any material to
our web site Dave will be pleased to hear from you via the Mail us link to the
left.
Back in November we had
planned a rather spectacular walk in the Chilterns. Unfortunately on the
chosen day it was very wet. So I thought it would be good to go back and
hopefully we shall be luckier this time.
The Rainbow Middle Assendon
Sunday 22nd
February 2004
For our first walk of 2004 we
shall be starting and ending our walk at the Rainbow pub at Middle Assendon.
The pub is on the B480 two and a half miles Northwest of Henley.
From the Fairmile (A4130) join the B480 where it is signposted ‘The
Assendons’. The walk is covered
by OS Map Landranger series 175 Reading and Windsor (GR 738858).
Parking is possible in the pub car park or in the side road opposite.
There is also an extensive lay-by alongside nearby houses – a good
place to put the Morgans on display possibly!
The walk is four and a half
miles in length and circulates around Fawley Bottom.
The views on this walk are superb and unsurpassed on the Chilterns.
Unfortunately to pay for this, there are some climbs to make, I’m
afraid, however, well worth the effort.
We shall meet at the Rainbow
at 10:30 am and we shall be back in time for lunch at the same pub.
I hope to see you there.
Scenic for run Cancer Charities
Sunday 27th
June 2004
I mentioned in my last report
of 2003 that we were planning to hold an event in 2004 that would aim to help
us pay a commemoration to the family and friends we have lost in the Centre.
Well with the kind help of Viv and Tony Hempel we shall be organising a scenic
run on the 27th June. The tour will take in the delightful
Buckinghamshire countryside and will end at a well known beauty spot for a
picnic. All proceeds will go to Cancer charities. I hope we will be able to
hold this event annually. If you would like to express your interest please
contact me. I have had a few people already convey their interest – all
Centres are of course welcome. Clearly I would like to make this event as a
big a financial success as possible.
See you all soon
