Someone very special to me commented that May 2004 had probably been the best
ever! Since records began I
guess. We were very busy indeed having a great time! I would like to thank Ian
Sollen for getting us organised for the Hambleden Sports Car Day – a really
worthwhile event. Also, I would like to thank Sandra Stuart and David Smith
for our wonderful trip to France. I think we are very lucky to have people
willing to devote their spare time to ensure we have these wonderful events to
enjoy. Thank you all very much. Incidentally, as you know, all our events are
fully reported in our monthly newsletter.
We have a very busy summer
ahead, so we have decided to hold our Annual Centre Dinner in the autumn. I am
very pleased to be able to announce that on Saturday 16th October
2004 Pam and Mike Aldrich shall be holding our annual Centre Dinner at the
Grovefield Hotel, the marvellous venue we enjoyed last year. As it will be at
the end of the season we plan to make our Centre awards at this dinner.
Tickets will soon be available, please put this date in your diary now.
While on the subject of
exciting news we have now decided on our date for a long weekend in the Peak
District. We hope to visit the sites of the flying fortresses that are still
largely intact out there in the National Park. Please contact Brian Miller if
you are interested in joining us on this exhilarating expedition. The
Thames side picnic has been moved back a week to accommodate this new event. I
hope this will not inconvenience any of you.
In August, Gerry Burkitt will be running our normal monthly walk from
the Barley Mow noggin, to ensure we have one last training session before the
Peak District!
As we are also very busy again
this month, we have planned our walk from the Hampden Arms on the normal
noggin day for that pub.
Great Hampden Walk
Sunday 20th
June 2004
The starting point of this
month’s walk is the car park of the Hampden Arms, at Great Hampden.
The pub is close to Hampden Common, and Great Missenden. Take a left
turn off the Great Missenden to Princes Risborough road after two miles and
follow the road signs to Great Hampden.
The walk is three and three
quarter miles in length and takes in some stretches of Grim’s Dyke,
enjoyable for its fine beech trees and mixed woodland. This walk is an easy one, I promise!
We shall meet at 10:30 am at
the Hampden Arms PH car park and we shall be back in time for lunch to enjoy
the fine traditional food at the Hampden Arms pub.
Those that would just like to meet us at the pub, we should be back
about 1’oclock. I hope to see
you there.
Scenic for run Cancer Charities
Sunday 27th
June 2004
Viv and Tony Hempel have
finalised their plans for our Scenic run this month. Full details will be sent
out shortly. The run will start near Amersham and end on the Downs near
Whipsnade zoo. There will be time in the afternoon to visit the zoo; I would
like to thank everyone that has given their kind support to this event.
Entry forms are still
available for our scenic run to be held on the 27th June. The tour
will take in our delightful local countryside and will end at a well-known
beauty spot for a picnic. All proceeds will go to Cancer charities. Along with
the entry form a sponsorship form is included for those of you that feel they
can attract sponsors for taking part in the event. All Centres are naturally
welcome. Please contact Viv and Tony Hempel or myself for further details –
thank you.
Take
care & see you all soonh
