At the time of writing (late
August 04) I had missed our picnic at the river Thames having been away on
holiday and our big event of the month our trip to the Peak District was still
to happen. Due to printing deadlines I couldn’t risk writing this report
while travelling back from Derbyshire, also bearing in mind the likely
strenuous nature of the expedition. We shall hear more about the Peak District
excursion in months to come and of course Heidi Miller will be reporting fully
for Thames Valley Centre News. As regards to the picnic I understand it was
very enjoyable. I was away on Exmoor trying to get into shape for the Peak
District – I want to make sure I can keep up with you all! I’m sure Heidi
will give us an excellent review of our very pleasant picnic. Next year I
shall rearrange my holidays so that I can come too!
The big event for October is
our Annual Centre Dinner which is kindly being organised by Pam and Mike
Aldrich. Please give Pam and Mike a ring if you would like to go. At this late
stage they will be able to advise whether there are any spaces left. The Dinner
is being held at the Grovefield House Hotel, Taplow Common Road, Burnham,
Buckinghamshire, SL1 8LP. The Hotel is quite near SGT; if you would like
directions please contact Pam and Mike, full directions on how to get to the
Hotel can be found in the latest edition of Thames Valley Centre News. It
should be a very enjoyable evening; I look forward to seeing you there.
The sponsorship monies for
our Cancer Charity Scenic run have been coming in very well and we have
exceeded our expectations by a large margin. We shall be paying the total very
soon to Marie Curie, this is a fine organisation that not only provides care
for sufferers but also funds much needed research. I am very proud that our
sponsorship funds shall be going to this charity. We shall be counting up the
final total very soon, so if any of you still have monies to collect could you
send them on to me as soon as possible please. I would once again like to thank
everyone that has been involved, when you know the total I think you will be
very pleased to see how well you all have done.
This month’s walk is set
around a very peaceful Chiltern village; it’s the sort of magnificent walk
you will want to do again and again!
A Walk from Bledlow
Sunday 31st
October 2004
Our walk this month will
begin and end at the Lions public house at Bledlow. The pub is at the western
end of Bledlow village two miles from Princes Risborough. It can be approached
along West Lane from the B4009 Lower Icknield Way. The walk is three and a
quarter miles long and takes in two hills to give some lovely views of the
surrounding countryside. Part of the walk runs parallel with the former Princes
Risborough to Watlington Railway. We shall meet at 10:30 at the pub’s car
park. If you would just like to join us at the pub for a noggin we should be
back about 13:00. The pubs on our walking tours are normally very good so the
Lions will be well worth a visit judging by past experiences. I
hope to see you there.
Take care & see you all soon -
