On
the day of our scenic run for cancer charities I learnt of the sad loss of
Robert Watson’s wife Jennifer. Robert has been taking great care of Jennifer during
her illness, for Robert and his family it has been a very sad time indeed.
Robert and Jennifer have
been members of the Centre for some years and in the early days we used to go
to their pub the Rose and Crown on the outskirts of Wycombe.
I remember Robert and Jennifer used to attend many of our Centre events,
Jennifer in particular used to enjoy her runs out in the Morgan with the hood
down. Even when Jennifer first
became ill, I remember Robert and Jennifer still coming to Castle Combe with us
to watch some Morgan racing. We
had a great run down the A4, I remember stopping off for a nice cup of coffee
en route! Jennifer had many
friends in the Centre and she will be sadly missed.
Regrettably Jennifer was latterly too ill to join Robert on our days out
or at our noggins.
The occasion of our scenic
run, while aiming to raise money for charity, was also a day of remembrance. I
was so glad Robert was able to join us on this day, as I felt sure that our
lost love ones and friends had been with us.
For me it was a very special event.
On behalf of the Centre I
would like to send to Robert and his family our sincere condolences at this
poignant time. To live in the
hearts of those we love is not to die.
At times of great sadness a
walk in the countryside can be therapeutic. I hope Robert you will feel able to
join us on our walk this month.
A Walk at Penn Street
Sunday 26th September 2004
Our walk this month will
begin and end at the Squirrel public house at Penn Street. The pub is two and a
half miles from Old Amersham, off the A404. The walk is three and a half miles
long and takes in a mixture of field and woodland paths with no hills to speak
of! We shall meet at 10:30 at the pub’s car park. If you would just like to
join us at the pub for a noggin we should be back about 13:00. The pubs on our
walking tours are normally very good so the Squirrel will be well worth a visit
judging by past experiences. I
hope to see you there.
Take care & see you all soon - Roger.
