I can hardly contain my excitement, but Jane and Glenn Davies have just finished the design for our thirty-fifth anniversary car badge. It is based on Mike Aldrich’s original design concept and makes a fine tribute to Mike’s brilliant first car badge for the Thames Valley Centre. If you can imagine the handmade badge now available in material that can be made in larger numbers, you will be some way to knowing what it looks like. It is simply stunning! One hundred will be made and they will all be numbered. Badge number one will be auctioned, with all proceeds going to charity. If you would like one of these badges please contact Jane as soon as possible. Jane will let you know the cost, at the time of writing it will be somewhere in the region of forty-five pounds. We request full payment in advance to secure a badge, please ask Jane for number availability, allocations will be made on a first come first served basis. We shall give you plenty of notice when we will be auctioning badge number one. I would like to thank Mike, Jane and Glenn for the genesis of this terrific thirty-fifth anniversary car badge!
On one of our recent walks in the Chilterns, I was chatting with Adrienne and Roger Prior about a visit to Welford Park they had enjoyed last February and how it would be nice to go there as a Centre. A main attraction at that time of year is the Snowdrop Woods. On Sundays in February, Welford Park is open between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. with the proceeds going to local charities. A gift shop is open along with a tea room that serves light lunches and homemade cakes. Dogs on leads are welcome but you are not allowed to picnic in the grounds – mind you, would you want to in February! Welford has a large car park that closes at 5:30 p.m.
Therefore, this month, we have decided to replace our walk in the Chilterns with a visit to the beautiful Snowdrop Woods. Don’t worry we shall go back to the Chilterns next month! I would like to thank Adrienne and Roger for proposing and organising this trip for us, for what I am sure will be a very enjoyable day out. Incidentally, on the Sunday we are going, the proceeds will be going to the 1st Newbury Sea Scouts.
While on the subject of boating, don’t forget our cruise on the Thames this June. Please contact Bert and his team quickly if you would like to go, as demand for places is high. I would hate for anyone to be disappointed. It should be a great evening! You never know we may need the services of the 1st Newbury Sea Scouts on this one, just as well we are supporting them – don’t worry, only joking!
On Sunday 26th February 2006 we have a visit to the Snowdrop Woods of Welford Park. See our events page for more detail../../../../p>
Take care & see you all soon
