On Sunday July 16th we shall be attending the Uxbridge Charity Auto Show organised by the Rotary Club which this year will primarily aid the Nyumbani Project, a home for orphaned babies and children born HIV positive. I hope you will able to come along. Please contact Allan Moore as soon as possible if you would like some tickets, Allan has organised a stand for us to display our Morgans. There are normally over 1,200 historic and classic vehicles on display. Along with a display arena for stunt activities, etc, there are also craft displays to add some variety to the day. This is a great day out while doing a lot of good for local, national and international charities. I would like to thank Allan for organising this special day out for us.
Since the Uxbridge Charity Auto Show clashes with our normal third Sunday noggin at the Hampden Arms, we shall be moving this noggin to the fourth Sunday for this month only. Please note this change of date, obviously we would like as many of us as possible to go to the Show. In August the Hampden Arms noggin will return to its normal third Sunday slot. I hope this change will not inconvenience anyone*.
In August along with our long weekend in Arundel, as a Centre, we shall be displaying and parading our Morgans at the World Rowing Championship finals on Sunday 27th August at Eton College. There will be coverage from the BBC, Radio and the International Media. We will be placed next to the Lake in a prominent position so hopefully we shall be appearing somewhere on digital television. Jane Davies is coordinating the event, if you would like to go please contact Jane giving her your car details as soon as you can. All Centres are welcome. It should be a very special day – I hope you will be able to support us.
Don’t forget that also during August I am embarking on a tour of Northern and Southern Ireland to climb the four highest stand alone peaks with my two dogs Bobby and Sally, in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust – any support that you can provide would be most welcome. In between the peaks I shall be touring round in my Morgan - while Ann, Brian and Heidi Miller will be touring Southern Ireland in their four-seater Morgan. I shall be meeting up with them somewhere in the Wicklow Mountains near to Dublin. We shall be meeting up with as many Irish Morgan owners as possible, something I am really looking forward to. If you would like to join us please contact me, or Ann, Brian and Heidi. All Centres are welcome. It should be great fun – I am particularly looking forward to sampling some of the “black stuff”.
We have much to look forward to in September; the most important event for us will be the Twenty-for hour charity run that we are organising over the weekend of 23rd to 24th. Please contact Mike Smith, Andy Doughty or Brian Miller if you would like to take part. It will be a very special weekend with a humungous hog roast to enjoy at the end of it. I hope you will be able to take part.
This month we shall be returning to the Lakes to enjoy a pleasant walk around the beautiful Derwentwater. I shall be up there for a longer period, putting in some training, with Peter Page’s help, in preparation for my planned mountaineering exploits in Ireland. You are welcome to join us for as long or as short as you like. We shan’t always be out walking of course; we will also be enjoying some runs in our Morgans. I hope to see you there.
Take care & see you all soon
