Over the Christmas holidays I learnt of the sad death of John Bishop, a good friend of the Centre from Sexmog. Over the years we have attended many of the main MOG events with John and his wife Joan along with several other Sexmog friends. In particular we used to go out on various scenic runs together having a great time. Most memorable for me, was back when we were at MOG ’92, when we drove around the Welsh Mountains, it was the year I first got myself a video camera. Gerry Burkitt spent most of his time hanging out the side of my car filming the run. We still have the tape somewhere – happy memories. I also remember when John accompanied me to the Brighton Speed Trials back in 1997; I couldn’t afford a team of mechanics in those days – come to think of it I still can’t! That year both Craig Jones and I won a trophy. Craig had to leave early; we were both competing the next day at Cornbury Park and Craig was towing his Morgan. This meant that I collected my trophy at the end of the event while John collected Craig’s – a great year for Morgans. Nothing can take these happy memories away.
John will be sadly missed. On behalf of the Centre I would like to send our sincere condolences to Joan and her family. To live in the hearts of those we love is not to die.
I am very pleased to be able to inform you that Paul Avis, a proud owner of a brand new Roadster has offered to help us with our Lake District trip this Easter. Paul lives in Cumbria and so along with his wife will be looking out for some nice places for us to visit. With this mind, a full itinerary for the weekend is currently being finalised. We shall arrive on Good Friday to enjoy a welcome noggin at the Kirkstone Pass Inn, which incidentally is the highest pub in England. On Easter Sunday we shall be visiting the historic house and gardens of Dalemain - the scene of many a car club visit. We will be based in and around the beautiful town of Keswick for our visit - if you would like to come please contact me. Keswick has a wide range of accommodation available, if you need any help in finding somewhere to stay please let me know. I would like to thank Paul and his wife for their great help, for what I am sure will be a very enjoyable weekend. All Centres are welcome!
Don’t forget we shall be setting off on our cruise on the 24th June. Captain Mike Aldrich and his first mate Bert Oslar are busy “press ganging” individuals in the Reading area to ensure we will have a full crew for the trip. At the end of the cruise we shall disembark to the Holiday Inn for a good old fashioned sing song round the hotel’s grand piano, with Bert at the keys of course. We have about fifteen staying at the hotel already and about sixty odd people have booked for the cruise at the time of writing in late January. Please be quick if you would like to go as places are being taken up very swiftly. It should be a very memorable evening indeed. Please contact Bert when you can – thanks.
The next walk falls on Mothering Sunday – if you can please bring your Mum along. Obviously Mum doesn’t have to go on the walk, but she can always meet us for a smashing lunch at the pub afterwards! See our events Page for details../../../../a>
Take care & see you all soon
