For September we are planning a scenic run with a difference. As many of you will be aware we are producing a car badge to commemorate thirty-five years of us being a MSCC Centre. The theme of the scenic run is to transport badge number one the length of the Thames from the Barrier to the source (this is the badge that is to be auctioned for charity). The scenic run will take place in eleven sections and will be a relay; a different Morgan will transport the badge through each section.
We plan to accommodate multiple Morgan's per section depending on the demand. While the main aim is to have fun, we hope each driver will be able to gain sponsorship for the run; the money raised will go to the Anthony Nolan Trust our nominated charity for this year. We expect the run to take in the order of twenty-four hours elapsed time, and it will take place on Saturday 23 September and Sunday 24 September. We will take a break overnight, although certified insomniacs could do extra runs for charity! A commemorative Noggin is planned at the Hampden Arms on the Sunday, and, if available, a pig will be roasted.
Further details will be sent out shortly, in the meantime if you wish to register interest please contact details are on our events pag../../../../a>. We also need some help in planning the detail of each section, so please let Andy know if you can assist. It should be a very special event. I hope you will be able to take part.
Next month don’t forget we have our holiday in Cornwall to look forward to. Please contact Jane and Glenn Davies if you would like to go. They have some interesting outings planned. A friend of mine has just returned back from Cornwall providing me with a list of wonderful beaches to visit in the Sennen Cove area, where we shall be based. I can’t wait! I am hoping that Bert Oslar will be teaching me how to do sea fishing from the beach. Cooking fresh fish back at my motor caravan is going to be really good. It should be a great week, please come along if you can.
We only have just over a month to go before we set off on our first ever River Thames cruise. Please contact Rear-Admiral Mike Aldrich and Commodore Bert Oslar if you would like to come aboard. There are still some places free, so please come along. It should be a great evening!
Our planned trip to the Arundel area is shaping up for the late August Bank Holiday weekend quite nicely. Geoff Giles is planning to have a Noggin at the World's End pu../../../../ restaurant in Patching (on the old A27) on the Friday night (25th Aug) and weather permitting he hopes to hold a game of 'Morgan Drive' courtesy of Ann & Brian Miller. On the Saturday (26th Aug) we plan to meet up in Arundel to enjoy the town centre and the Arundel Festival events. Saturday evening will see us meeting at the Spur in Slindon for a Buffe../../../../ BBQ and skittles evening. On Sunday (27th) we will meet up at the Amberley Working Museum with our cars on display for the day. In the evening we will return to Amberley for our Gala Dinner. On Monday 28th we have an option of Quad bikin../../../../ clay pigeon shootin../../../../ archery and axe throwing - subject to interest. Otherwise we will meander home and meet up for a Noggin lunch further north. It sounds like a fantastic weekend to look forward to, thank you Geoff very much for organising this event for us. All Centres are most welcome to join us – the more the merrier!
For the second bank holiday weekend in May we are organising another special walk at the remarkable Lydford Gorge. We have entered the Devil’s Dyke, explored the Devil’s Punch Bowl, well now we shall be going to see the Devil’s Cauldron, one of the “must see” attractions of the Gorge. It’s the deepest gorge in the whole of the South West, and it’s surrounded by ancient woodland. Please contact me for further details.
