The main event for august is of course MOG 007 at Goodwood. We are of course involved in a big way as we shall be running the gymkhana. I would like to wish everyone involved all the best for what I am sure will be a tremendous event. Mike Smith has produced an impressive plan view of how the various games will link together; I must say I am looking forward to the day much indeed. Naturally, we are still looking for volunteers to act as marshals. A good number of people have come forward but we still need more. If you would like to get involved please contact Gerry Burkitt as soon as you can. Gerry is coordinating the time slots for the marshals during the day. Clearly, we would like to even out the work load during the running of the gymkhana as much as possible. I would like to thank Richard Thorne for sponsoring the gymkhana and for the provision of the trophies for the various classes including the special “Shaken not stirred” award. I wish all the competitors well in their contest for these wonderful trophies.
Over the last year or so Gary Harman has been passing us some superb motor sport photographs of Team Aero in action, amongst others. For 2006 Gary was at most of the GT championship rounds in this country. To make the best use of these photographs, David Vodden has up dated our web site including them on a new motor sport page along with a full race season report for last year. I would like to thank Gary for his photographs and David for taking the time to update our web site. It gives fine access to Gary’s work, something we are fortunate to receive. Please have a look at the web page updates – they look impressive.
While on the subject of web sites, David Vodden is thinking of including another section on thamesmog.co.uk that covers owners’ and their cars. If you would like send a picture of your car with yourself, if you are happy to, some history and we shall start a catalogue. With this in mind we do have some new “babies” in the Centre that have arrived this year. Jenny and Tony Newberry have taken delivery of a new beautiful Indigo Blue Plus 4 two seater; Elaine and Gordon Wilson also just bought a new stunning Black Plus 4 two seater. While Steve Pullen is now running around in a rather nice dark blue Aero 8. Many congratulations to you all! I hope to see your glamorous photographs on our web site soon.
Interestingly, we all know how well the Aero 8 goes but I am told the current generation of Morgans with Duratec engines do perform, with the Plus 4 being a nicely balanced example. It has a nice turn of speed which could be just about right for many. I just wonder whether the Plus 4 will become the new “work horse” for the Morgan range, as time goes on. Still it is a super car, as all Morgans are of course.
Our Tri-centre walks with Brighton Centre, Hopmog and ourselves are making a dramatic return this month, as described below. As this walk is being held during a holiday weekend, we may choose to extend the trip – please watch this space. A good campsite nearby can be found at the following link: http://www.buckle-camping.ukti.co.uk/ for you hardier souls that enjoy the fresh air.
As this is very much a holiday period, I hope you will all have a wonderful time, suitably refreshed for a busy September ahead.
Take care & see you all soon
