I hope everyone had a very happy enjoyable Christmas. With the New Year upon us I am pleased to say we have much to look forward to!

Along with Geoff Giles’ planned trip to France next August, as mentioned last month, Robin Henderson and I are pulling together our plans for a return trip to Ireland for late June or early July this year. We hope to start making booking arrangements very soon. Please have a chat with either Robin or myself if you are interested in this trip. We hope to be based in Cong, County Mayo with plenty of beautiful places to visit in and around the area. I hope you will be able to join us.

Also, please contact Geoff with regard to his planned trip to France. I know Geoff has had a good level of interest, as soon as I have confirmed dates for his trip I will let you know. I hope you will be able to join us on this trip as well.

Please don’t forget on January 1st you have the opportunity to attend the classic car meeting at the Poacher and the Phoenix Pub. Both start in the morning and run over lunch time to mid afternoon. Please contact Andy Low if you are thinking of going and would like some more information. Both venues can be busy, parking at the Phoenix in particular, normally involves finding a space at the roadside. Last year people tended to travel between the pubs to see the different cars on display. We shall congregate at our normal watering hole - The Poacher. The landlord will be providing his normal excellent range of food designed to add recovery from the night before.

Alternatively, on New Year’s Day we have a rather spectacular walk with Brighton Centre and Hopmog on the beautiful South Downs to celebrate the start of 2007.

New Year’s Day Joint walk with Hopmog and Brighton Centre
From the Golden Galleon Pub - Seven Sisters National Park
A Walk to Haven Brow

Monday 1st January 2007

I am pleased to say that we shall be joining Hopmog and Brighton Centre for a New Year’s Day walk from the Golden Galleon just outside of Seaford, East Sussex, for an another walk in the Seven Sisters National Park. We shall meet at the car park of the Golden Galleon at 10:30 am. We shall then go for a walk to, weather permitting, Haven Brow to take in a wonderful view of the Cuckmere Haven, and a visit to the beach, returning finally to the Golden Galleon in time for lunch at 12 noon. If the weather isn’t quite as good as usual we shall explore Friston Forest taking in another fine view of the Cuckmere Haven en route while still being back in time for lunch at the Golden Galleon at noon. Of course if you just want to join us for lunch you would be most welcome to meet us at noon. The Golden Galleon is on the A259 a few miles east of Seaford, west of Eastbourne, where the road crosses the River Cuckmere by way of a very narrow bridge. Just before the bridge turn right into a large car park if you are coming from Seaford. Last year the food was very enjoyable at the Galleon. And of course with the local Harvey’s beer on tap, you can’t go far wrong. I hope to see you there, to welcome the New Year in.

It should be a great walk with plenty of fresh air for the New Year!

Take care, see you all soon and have a very happy New Year with good health
