At the time of writing (end of April 2011) I was juggling between this report, making my lunch and watching the Royal Wedding. I found the whole ceremony to be both moving and up lifting – one couldn’t help feeling proud to be British. Also, I couldn’t help my moistening eyes and it had nothing to do with the onions I was putting in my stew. Kate was breathtaking of course, that Sarah Burton dress was just perfect and her sister Pipa was wonderful and I liked her outfit too. William looked supportive and ready to accept the heavy responsibilities that will fall upon him during the weeks/months/years to come. A nice touch for the day for me was when they left Buckingham Palace in the open top Aston Martin belonging to Prince Charles. I remember a long time ago seeing Prince Charles driving this car through Richmond with the top down. A fantastic machine, I remember thinking – a DB6 Volante, I believe. I wondered how Kate got into the Aston in that dress. Now if they had been in a Morgan that would have been something! And if they managed to squeeze into the Aston like that then a Morgan wouldn’t be too much of a stretch, I would think. It was a special day. On behalf of the Centre I would like to send our best wishes to the happy couple for their future. As William and Kate begin their life together we have another busy month ahead of us: Roger Prior is taking us back to the enjoyable Thames Riverside Beale Park show; and we have a return to Bearwood College and their Classic car show in their beautiful grounds; plus there is a father’s day car show in West Wycombe Park to visit. I am sure all these events will be pleasant trips. Let’s hope the fine weather continues for these lovely outings.
I would like to make a correction to the trip to the Walled Garden trip that I mentioned last month that is being organised by Mike Aldrich. The visit to the National Trust property in the morning has been cancelled since it transpires that the gardens are not open on the day of our chosen visit. Therefore we have decided to extend our time at the Walled Garden Centre: please arrive from 11:00 am for coffee, etc. Our visit is on Sunday 31st July. Those wanting to have a Sunday lunch this is available in the restaurant between the hours of 12.00-14:00. Mike has also arranged a cream tea for those attending starting at approximately 16:00. The owners will reserve a special area for us in the car park with space for our club banners and flags. They will be thrilled to see as many Morgan Sports cars as possible. Mike hopes that during the afternoon we shall be able to visit the adjacent Elizabethan Manor. An admission charge will be made to help with the upkeep of the house and grounds. If you are interested in attending please contact Mike Aldrich on telephone: 01628 676619 and/or Email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - so that we can give the owners of the garden centre an idea of numbers for catering purposes. I hope you will be able to join us for I feel sure this will be another enjoyable event for us.
In terms of Miscellany time we are just over a month before we attend the Uxbridge Car Show. If you would like to attend please contact Allan Moore or Mike Smith as soon as you can please. As you no doubt recall we have, over the last two years running, won best club stand so this year we are going for three in a row. Ambitious plans are afoot to secure our victory – please have a word with Brian Miller for details. Thames Valley expects all Morgan owners to do their duty. When you chat to Brian about his plans you will understand the tenuous link with this remark/misquote. Good luck to all involved.
Building on our recent visit to Cliveden this month we shall be making a visit to Greys Court. This is a National Trust property so if you are a member don’t forget your membership card. Car parking is free. Dogs are allowed on the walks as defined on their website but not near or in the houses. We did have a good time visiting Cliveden so I hope you will be able make it to Greys Court. See our events page for details.
Take care, see you all soon
