Morgan Sports Car Club in the Thames Valley

August 2011

I have the pleasure to report, rather belatedly, a happy event for Denzil Rowe and family. On May 12th, 06:54 am, 2011, Alisha Rowe was born weighing in at 8lb 5oz The late Chris Rowe, a founding member of the Centre and one time editor of Miscellany and Denzil’s father, would be very proud and happy. We now have another third generation of the Rowe family involved with us and the Morgan world in general. Denzil drives Chris’ old four seater: an appropriate vehicle for a family man. On behalf of the Centre of I would like to congratulate Denzil and his wife Amanda on their happy news. Their children love Morgan sports cars: the future is safe in their hands.

On a different note, I am gravely sad to report that my beloved Labrador Bobby has recently passed away. Bobby had been my friend, companion for over fifteen years: we had been together since he was a puppy. As Adrienne and Roger Prior kindly said to me, during these sad times it can help to look back at happier times and memories to the many adventures we shared together. Back in 2005, while preparing to climb Ben Nevis to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care, we had a run out to the beautiful Glen Etive. Here I took a photograph of Bobby in my Morgan 4/4 in quite dramatic, atmospheric surroundings. Consequently, this photograph made it into the 2006 MSCC calendar. Michael Palmer’s latest book on the first seventy-five years of the Morgan 4/4, to be published in the autumn, includes this photograph. I shall treasure this book and my happy memories with my dog Bobby. I would like to thank everyone for their kind condolences during this personally sad period.

Thinking about happier things, I would like to thank everyone that helped us out at short notice at a recent photo shoot at the Bird In Hand. With all the help that the team led by Natasha gave us at our fortieth anniversary dinner held at the Bird In Hand, we promised to present to them a photograph of our Morgan sports cars parked up outside their fifteen century coaching inn. At the photo shot we gathered together a great selection from Tim Marsh’s TR Plus four to Steve and Anita Pullen’s Aero Eight. Mike Aldrich is organizing a framed photograph of this impressive vista. Please talk to Mike if you would like a copy for your memoirs. We hope a version will be presented above the bar to advertise our continued presence at this great venue with us looking forward to the next forty years.

Please note that our planned visit to West Wycombe Park this month has a new start time. Please meet at the car park at 14:30. Roger Prior discovered while reviewing our events that this venue is only open in the afternoons, hence our revised start time. I hope this change will not inconvenience anyone. We will stop off for an afternoon tea during or after our explorations. I hope to see you there.

Take care, see you all soon
