There seems to be a trend for having birthdays that either coincide or are near to our first Thursday noggins at the Bird In Hand for one of our Centre colleagues. Back in August it was Mike Smith’s (our communications officer) birthday on the first Thursday. However, this time there was no cake – I did feel sorry for Mike and for me as I do like cake. Still better luck for us next time don’t you think Mike? Happy birthday Mike for last August.
Don’t forget this month at the Bird In Hand noggin we have a meeting to discuss ideas for future events in the months/years ahead. Please come along and give us your views and thoughts for Centre activities. To give you some inspiration we already have two confirmed events for 2012. On Sunday May 13th we are booked in for a visit to Hinton Ampner National Trust property near Alresford in Hampshire. Lyn Sandford is coordinating the visit for us and she can arrange for up to twenty Morgan sports cars to park in front of the house. If we get more Lyn may plan to put the oldest in front of the house with the more virile in a safe area away from public parking. We appear in the National Trust programme of events for next year courtesy of Lyn. We will be able to look round the house and Lyn will take bookings for lunch and there are some nice tea rooms for the afternoon. It should be a great day out so please put this date in your diary now. I would like to thank Lyn and David Sandford very much for setting this visit up for us. And the second major event is being organised by Terry Tedman and is our welcome return to Fawley for a visit to the ultimate train set which will be another wonderful day out for the Centre. The date for this visit is currently being agreed but we suspect it will be held in August next year. Terry will let us know as soon as possible. We are very fortunate to be going back to see this collection. On behalf of the Centre I would like to thank you Terry very much indeed.
Hopefully, the above examples will inspire you. To find the meeting head towards the bar at the Bird In Hand and turn left through to the restaurant and you will see some curtains. Knock at the curtains and you are in. I look forward to seeing you there. Let’s have an exciting 2012.
With the year passing quickly, next month we have the Veteran Car Run meeting at Newland’s Corner for a run down to Staplefield. If the weather turns nasty, as sometimes happens, please assume the run is off. Fingers crossed, so that this time we and the veterans won’t be confronted with any dire weather warnings.
Our next walk is at Hughenden Manor is on Sunday October 23rd meeting at 11 am in the Manor’s car park. This is a Natiional Trust property so if you are a member please bring your membership card along. This is the home of Benjamin Disraeli and was the top secret location for WWII map painting for RAF missions (e.g. Dam Busters) You will be able to see: / German forest / elegant garden / walled garden / ice house bunker / woodland trails /, High Wycombe HP14 4LA (Bucks) (National Trust) www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-hughendenmanor I hope to see you there. Our last visit to West Wycombe was very enjoyable indeed, so I hope you can make it.
Take care, see you all soon
