As the winner of the Richard Thorne Charity Trophy in 2007, Bert Oslar has the job of nominating our chosen charity for 2008. I am pleased to say that Bert has chosen the Sue Ryder Homes at Nuffield, a local concern. At Christmas fund raisers are invited to a special party when a candle of remembrance is lit in commemoration of received donations. This will be a special occasion to look forward to.

With Bert’s nominated charity in mind and I am delighted to be able to announce our exciting charity challenge for 2008, as proposed by Glenn and Jane Davies and detailed below.

The Thames Valley Centre’s 2008 Charity Challenge 1st April – 31st October 2008

This year’s “Challenge” is to visit as many Morgan dealerships and other MSCC Centre noggins and events as possible in 2008.

The challenge will run from 1st April to 31st October 2008. Sponsorship will take the form of fifty pence per visit (noggin or dealership). Or sponsors can donate a flat rate for the whole venture undertaken by an entrant. Only one visit per entity will count. For example, you can only count one visit to Richard Thorne regardless of how many times you go there. The winner will be the Mogger who has visited the most Centres and Morgan dealerships during the year in their Morgan(s).

As some people will have the opportunity to travel far greater distances than others, there will be two separate competitions. You can either enter the Six Centres Competition or, alternatively, the World Competition. The Six Centres Competition will cover the areas encompassed by the following Centres: Thames Valley, OxMog, SmogMog, SpotMog, SogMog, and CranMog. Other MSCC based events, in or out of the Six Centres area, will also count, such as Morgans at Brooklands, Mog ‘08 and the Peter Morgan Memorial Trophy Race. As Thames Valley hold four monthly noggins at four different venues it will be possible to tot up four “visits” by attending all four separate noggins. However, four is the maximum as revisiting a noggin a month later does not count.

The World Competition literally encompasses the world: including the Six Centres, other Centres and dealerships outside of this area, MSCC based events and even the Morgan Owners Club of Australia (there might even be a special prize for attending the latter).

Entrants to the World Competition could easily clock up some high mileages and these will, of course, count in our annual mileage competition. Remember if you have more than one Morgan, the mileage and credit for the charity challenge can be accumulated across your fleet.

The judges would like to receive some evidence of visits: for example, pictorial, dealership stamp, or a signed postcard from a Centre secretary. However, we might be willing to take your word if none of these are available. Nevertheless, as usual, the judge’s decision will be final. Pictorial would be a good option as we could put together a compendium of all the photos to show our various travels around the country (and overseas) during the year.

To make it more convivial we plan some TV Mog outings to other Centre noggins. Please contact Glenn and Jane Davies for further details, please see below.

Don’t forget this month we have the Beer and Skittles challenge from the local Marcos Sports Car Club. Even though we have the experienced Steve Pullen on our side, the Centre expects everyone Morgan owner to do their duty; we must try and win this time! ?

For the second of our joint centre walks for 2008 we shall be going along to Pirbright, Surrey - visiting the newly face lifted Moorhen Pub. Pirbright is five miles south-west of Woking on the A324. There are plenty of places to park in lay-bys around the village green. See our events page for details.
