I would like to thank Richard and Helen Thorne for their generous hospitality at their annual Christmas Party early last December. Unfortunately, the first production Aeromax was not quite available for the evening. However, Helen did see the car the very next day at the factory and in her own words: it looked fantastic! I am looking forward to seeing one on the road in 2008. Charles Morgan was at the party and gave us an insight into another successful year and his exciting plans for the future long may it continue! On the night a raffle was held raising three hundred and twenty pounds, while a raffle for a track event raised three hundred and five pounds, with all the proceeds going to Great Ormond Street Hospital. Pleasingly, our very own Jim Peck won the track day be careful out there Jim! With gift aid the evening raised a total of eight hundred and fifty-two pounds. A great achievement for a wonderful evening well done to everyone! It has been another great year for our charity fund raising activities.
Our first noggin at the Cross was a great success despite the extraordinarily wet weather that we had to endure. Nevertheless, this gave Kevin and Pam Newton the opportunity to try out their new water tight hood for their four seater. If you would like to hear more about how well their hood is coping with our wet seasons these days, please have a chat with Kevin and Pam at a future noggin. The food at the Cross was quite enjoyable, with an adjacent restaurant on site that looked quite interesting. From the main bar you can enjoy a great panorama of the cricket field opposite it should be good in the summer. This scene is depicted somewhat artistically inside the pub. We were joined by some MG owners, who enjoyed our company and hope to join us at future noggins. They were pleased that there is going to be a regular meeting of car enthusiasts at this venue. Since the Morgans can easily be seen out front, by passer bys, Im sure we should pick up some new friends. Along with the bowling alley this pub has a lot of potential I hope to see you there soon.
Adrienne and Roger Prior have another visit to Welford Park that we enjoyed so much last February. A main attraction at this time of year is the Snowdrop Woods. On Sundays in February, Welford Park is open between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. with the proceeds going to local charities. A gift shop is open along with a tea room that serves light lunches and homemade cakes. Dogs on leads are welcome but you are not allowed to picnic in the grounds mind you, would you want to in February! Welford has a large car park that closes at 5:30 p.m. I hope to see you there.
