Postponed from December by the heavy snow fall, we are returning to Basildon House for the opportunity to walk one of the four woodland routes. The winter trees open up new views of the garden and house, and you can see long vistas of natural beauty from the house. Spotting snowdrops is a favourite activity during the early months of the New Year, and the frost on the bare trees adds crisp colour to the otherwise bare landscape.
Meet in the car park at 11:00. Basildon Park, Lower Basildon, Reading, Berkshire, RG8 9NR.
The Basildon Park you see today is a re-creation and restoration of the 18th-century mansion, brought back to life in the 1950s by Lord and Lady Iliffe. The collection includes important 18th- and 19th-century paintings and antiques. Explore our waymarked trails through the historic parkland and gravel paths around the gardens. Don't miss our newly opened 1950s office and family activity space.
Note: main show rooms are on the first floor – 21 steps up from ground level.
