On International Morgan Day, 19 September (a date chosen to mark 1909, when H.F.S Morgan built his first car), all Morgan owners are encouraged to get out and drive, celebrating their wonderful cars and the community that loves them.
MSCC is marking this date with a drive through the Cotswolds.
Start: Williams Automobiles (near Bristol) - breakfast 0830. End c 1415 at Longborough, then optional lunch
Part 1 (0915): drive (60 miles) to Kingsley Café (near Eynsham) for coffee with OxMog around 1115
Part 2 (1200): drive (64 miles) through the Cotswolds ending with late lunch around 1415 at Cotswold Barn.
It is possible to join for either or both parts - although the full journey will give the best variety of driving experience.
The route: The morning takes us from the southern Cotswolds across to the upper Thames valley, combining the hills and wooded lanes around Nailsworth and Avening with more open, flowing roads through Cirencester, Fairford, Lechlade and the Oxfordshire countryside. After coffee with OxMog, the character changes as we head deep into the North Cotswolds: through the Evenlode valley and a succession of stone villages, over wooded uplands and open farmland, before a final run through Blockley and Broad Campden. Two of the best Cotswolds driving roads—the so-called “TT route” near Charlbury and Fish Hill near Broadway—will be included.
The drive: There will be opportunities for brisk, enjoyable driving — always within the limits of safety, visibility and the law — and the day will particularly suit drivers and passengers who are comfortable maintaining a purposeful pace on varied roads. Expect everything from narrow, bumpy single-track lanes to wider, flowing roads with long views across the countryside, interspersed with some of the Cotswolds’ most attractive villages.
