Visit to Jane Austen's House Museum

Join us for a family day out to Jane Austen's House Museum.

It is the only house where Jane lived and wrote that is open to the public.

On display during this summer is 'Family, Friendship and Northanger Abbey' All of Jane Austen's novels focus on family and friendship, but it is widely suggested that the family of Catherine Morland, the heroine of Northanger Abbey, most strongly reflects life in the Austen family. Like Jane, Catherine's father was a clergyman and they both grew up in a rectory among a large and lively family. ​

Displays throughout the Museum, featuring newly acquired treasures, will explore the themes of family and friendship in both Northanger Abbey and in the lives of the Austen family, discover how attending society balls, writing letters and reading novels played a role in the lives of these real and imagined characters.

Admission: Adults £8.50, Conces £7.50.

Park up at 11:00 in a car park opposite, accessed through the pub car park.

There are no catering facilties on site, however, visitors can take a picnic to enjoy in the Museum garden, or visit the Cassandra's Cup  tea rooms and The Greyfriar Pub opposite.
