During, what appeared to be, a brief spell between Lockdown 1 and Lockdown 2, ThamesMOG had a busy time of Noggins and events. One of these events was a visit to the West Green House Classic Car Show in September.
Back in 2016 ThamesMOG had visited West Green House on one of its monthly outings. Isn’t it interesting how Morgans can open doors…. As we assembled in the car park, the leaseholder of West Green House, Marylyn Abbott, came up to us to say that Morgans are her favourite car. How many other marques would receive that type of affection? Marylyn invited us to their first Classic Car Show which was planned for later that year. ThamesMOG has attended their Classic Car Show every year since, come rain or shine.
This year we were greeted by glorious sunshine. The Morgans were first to arrive, so we had the choice of where to park. ThamesMOG were joined by Morgans from our neighbouring Centres, some who had driven a couple of hours to be there. We put on a fine show of 24 Morgans, ranging from the 1980's to the very modern, including a modern Three Wheeler and the Aero version of the +8, all separated by a social distancing 2m, a line which stretched the full width of the field. There were over 200 Classic cars on show, ranging from a beautiful 1930’s Alvis to a Triumph TR6 that had been expertly converted to electric power.
While we were admiring this vast array of fine Classic cars, we were serenaded by three of England’s finest opera and oratorio sopranos, the Roxy Dots, who wowed everyone with a toe tapping show singing the best of the 1930’s and 40’s girl band music. To quote the West Green website "The sun shone, the cars gleamed, the girls sang in fabulous harmony and the garden was at its autumn best, all making one of West Green’s happiest days!" Walking around the gardens made us think that it would be a splendid place to visit when the tulips are in flower, or later when the roses are in bloom. We are very lucky to have such a beautiful place on our doorstep.
