After the record temperatures on Friday, this Sunday turned out just right, not too hot, some blue skies, and a few clouds with a very gentle breeze. Unlike the British Open Golf tournament at Troon. (Billy Connolly once said there are only two seasons in Scotland: June and winter !!! ) I apologise I digress.
We were 23 in total and as the weather was so nice we all sat outside.
I am sorry to say there were a few tales of Morgan woes today, starting with a horn and windscreen wipers not working on a plus 8, although luckily not both at the same time. A Plus 4 that lost all its dashboard lights and instrument information due to wires rubbing together on the loom. A plus 6 on which the door would not open or shut due to a linkage problem. This problem was solved using a length of string.
Useful tip for July, a ball of string is something that could be added to your essential items to take with you while out in your Morgan.
Finally and not to be left out John and Karen French have booked their plus 4 into the factory for a couple of days. The work includes fitting a new radiator, this would be number 3 !!!! and some oversteer fault warning issues that need sorting out. Apart from that all our cars are running perfectly.
I don’t know if I should mention this as you all may want one, that is if you have a spare wheel, but Lynne Doughty our very own ThamesMOG seamstress extraordinaire has made a spare wheel cover for their Plus 4. I have one on my 4 seater which Lynne was looking at a few weeks ago. Well, today Andy and Lynne turned up in their Morgan proudly sporting this new wheel cover. I have to say it was just perfect and so well made. Well, done Lynne.
As Chif was on holiday in Wales we had a spare seat going begging in our four seater so we were able to squeeze in our friend Lucy today. Her first time in a convertible car and a Morgan to boot. Now that is one more thing she can tick off her bucket list.
Richard Clayton who as you all know is our Regalia Officer, sold two Thames Valley Morgan Centre car badges and one 50th anniversary badge yesterday. His mobile leather display case was a brilliant idea, at this rate we will need to order some more stock.
If you attended our AGM at The Bird in Hand in May you will no doubt remember the excellent talk and display on wood turning given by our very own John French. Well John bought a couple of examples of his work to the noggin on Sunday. They were made using a clever technique called offset wood turning the finished example looks great but the visual impact does mess with your head as it does not look possible. Please don’t ask me to explain how it is done, go and talk to John.
I think that is just about everything, so I look forward to meeting up again in August.
