I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas. I would like to wish everyone a very happy New Year; above all I hope you will all enjoy good health.
In 2003 we witnessed the end of several eras, of significant importance to the Morgan world was of course the sad loss of Peter Morgan. A number of Morgan Sports Car Club members associated with Thames Valley attended Peter's Memorial service in Malvern to pay their last respects. It was an honour to be able to be at this service and on behalf of the Centre I would like to thank Peter Morgan's family for giving us this special opportunity.
The service reminded me of the loss of my own father. He was from the same era as Peter and he had many similar characteristics. My father also owned a Morgan and he would say that the Morgan was the best car on the road. What my father meant of course was that as a cost effective package the Morgan was unbeatable, I like to think this is still true today. With my father his word was his bond and if he shook your hand that was as good as any written contract. Unfortunately in the world we live now I meet less and less people like Peter or my late father. Therefore, for me losing Peter Morgan represents the sad loss of another link to a past I much preferred.
I can empathise particularly with Charles Morgan at this sad time as during 2003 my mother also passed away. I was very lucky in that I received great support from my family and friends. As I have commented many times the Morgan Sports Car Club is like an extended family and the members can be very supportive at these heartbreaking times. This was also true for me during the loss of my mother. At my mother's funeral we had a good turn out of Morgans and in many ways at that time I was also saying goodbye to my father. I would to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the support and kindness I was given. I cannot express in words adequately how much comfort this gave me.
At this poignant time and on behalf of the Centre I would like to send our sincere condolences to Peter Morgan's family and friends.
The best way to remember Peter I believe is to get out there and enjoy your Morgans, and of course as a Centre this is just what we intend to do!
