I was interested to read in the Daily Telegraph recently that an electric Morgan Three Wheeler, with a 150 mile range between plug-ins, was being made ready for full production. For many of my run around trips this could be a useful vehicle; I guess I could charge it up at night with my smart phone. The Three Wheeler is light and has minimal electrical extras, so it sounds like the idea platform for this move forward in this environmental conscious age. And it is quite fast too, I believe. One would need to play a recording of a real engine to compensate, I guess. It’s on my Christmas list.
This month we have our visit to the Fawley Hill railway museum just outside Henley on Thames. Our Morgan Sports Cars will be displayed amongst the exhibits. This is a rare opportunity that for any rail enthusiast is a must. The rides on the steam train around the grounds are wonderful. A particular favourite for me is the massive model railway set. I could watch this in operation all day. At the time of writing there were no tickets left but please contact Terry Tedman if you would like to join us just in case there have been any cancellations. I hope all those of you attending will have a great day out.
On August 23rd we will visit the beautiful Maidenhead and Cookham Commons. Please meet at 11.00 in the main car park (SL6 6QD). We plan to explore the historic commons with plenty of nice spots for a picnic.
Please remember that on 13th September we have a vineyard tour and wine tasting at the Bothy Vineyard. Two years ago we had a very enjoyable afternoon on a guided tour of the Bothy Vineyard, followed by wine tasting, led by the very knowledgeable owner, Richard Liwicki. Also in September, we have a Classic Car Meeting, on Sunday 27th at the White Lion Antiques Centre, Hartford Bridge, Hartley Wintney. This is a special Morgan edition of this Classic Breakfast meeting organised by our new club Archivist Mike Hughes. We normally meet here on the second Sunday of the month but on this occasion Morgan Sports cars will take centre stage. I hope many of you will be able to make this meeting – all Centres welcome. I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Centre, to congratulate Mike on his new role in the club. I know Mike is finding this job to be most interesting in the research he is being asked to undertake for various parties. Well done Mike – I wish you all the best in this interesting position.
Due to changing requirements, The Four Horseshoes noggin in Long Sutton is ending. This pub was an enjoyable venue providing some tasty reasonably priced fish and chips. Still one has to consider one’s waistline. On behalf of the Centre, I would like to thank Ted and Linda Kannemeyer for their stewardship of this noggin over the years. All other noggins remain the same.

At the time of writing we had just enjoyed/endured the hottest day ever recorded in July in Britain. With this statistic in mind, I hope you are all managing to keep reasonably cool. Remember it is all too easy to suffer heat stroke in an open top car – I know, I have managed it – take it easy.
