We are pleased to announce we will be holding our AGM at the Bird In Hand Noggin on May 2nd details have been circulated in newsletter postings to members. Christopher Beck and Christopher Nickless will be giving brief talks on a series of planned events and the trip to Mid-Wales, respectively. We also hope to have an additional speaker on a subject we are sure will be most interesting for us.
Hence, it's that time of the year again when we ask for your nominations for the Thames Valley Centre's trophies which will be presented at this year's AGM this month. As a Centre we are proud of our awards as they characterize the spirit of our club. Through these awards we aim to facilitate the use and enjoyment of our beloved steeds, in like-minded company. The trophies are all awarded on a calendar year basis, in this case 2023. The Trophies are:
The F. H. Douglass Trophy. Awarded to the owner who has driven the greatest distance in their Morgan(s) during the year. I knew there are a few of you that have made long journeys in your Morgans last year, so why not enter? This award is easy to enter, just send us your mileage taken for 2023 from your MOT, or annual service invoices. Please email your mileage for 2023 to Roger
The Richard Thorne Charity Trophy. Awarded to a member who has used their Morgan as a means of raising money for charity. As an example, in 2021 the late Frank Lomax sold Morgan related items to raise money for Combat Stress. If you have used your Morgan, or used Morgan items in a charitable way, why not let us know. The SGT Trophy. This is awarded to the member who has exhibited the best traditions of Morgan ownership and its furtherance in true club spirit. Who do you think has shown 'true club spirit' in 2023? Please email your nominations to
The Silver Salver Trophy. Awarded to the Centre member who has been most inspirational in the spirit of competition during the year. Who do you know in the Centre who has exhibited the spirit of competition in the past year? Please email your nominations to
The Badge Number 1 Trophy. The 35th anniversary car badge number 001, which is mounted on an ash plinth, is awarded to the person who arrives at ThamesMOG Noggins in their Morgan the most times during the year. This trophy is decided by the ThamesMOG committee, by referring to the Noggin attendance books.
Our visit to the BMW Mini factory in April was so popular we needed to book two separate tours. Thanks to Chris Beck for arranging this trip.
On Tuesday May 14th we visit the Tuckett Brothers, Model T Ford Specialists, and on Sunday 26 May we join with HopMOG at the Brands Hatch Masters Historic Festival 2024. This old-school circuit has preserved the nostalgia of historic racing with its original layout from the 1960s and is a definite favourite of drivers and fans alike. On Saturday 1st June ThamesMOG has been invited to exhibit at this year’s Pangbourne Classic Car Show. ThamesMOG have attended this event ever since it started in 2016. The event is completely free. At previous events over 250 amazing vehicles were on display in the glorious Berkshire sunshine, and raised an amazing £4000 for Charity. Pre-booking is essential. Also in June we visit The Museum of Water & Steam at Kew on Sunday 23rd June. They hold a steam-up weekend once a month and they have agreed to give us a group visit. This should be a good one, the big Cornish beam engines are very impressive in motion and the visit to the Kempton Museum last year went down well.
