It had been over six years since Tim and Sheila Billard had been to the Centre. They only live in Twyford so hopefully their return to the fold will be permanent. Also Tim Marsh arrived for an evening out. Tim owns a ’55 Morgan Plus Four that is currently off the road. Tim travels for work so unfortunately his visits to the Centre won’t be as frequent as he would like.
During Mog 99 I am very pleased to say that we recruited John and Margaret Bullen to the Centre. Naturally we have a very rigorous entrance procedure: wellie throwing, relay races, tossing the caber and of course tug of war. Moreover a panache for getting lost in the wilderness is an advantage but not essential. John and Margaret met our low standards for all these activities easily.
In the latest edition of the Thames Valley Centre Newsletter (TVCN) Chris Rowe talks about a car he is saving up for the sensational McLaren F1. Ray Styles continues his series on rebuilding his 4/4 concentrating on the chassis. We also have a report back from the fantastic Brooklands weekend. As an experiment we have decided to visit Uncle Tom’s Cabin in Cookham Dean on the 3rd Thursday evening of the month. The first Thursday evening noggin at the Bird In Hand will still be held, this will be an extra noggin. The Uncle Tom’s Cabin is an old Country Pub with excellent food and beer. I have never tasted London Pride like it. We discovered the Pub at the end of our walk on 4th July. Please come along and try it out – we shall meet in the Garden bar.
Finally I would like to thank Ann and Quentin English for allowing us to have a very enjoyable barbecue at their house after the Leith Hill expedition.
