The first Thursday saw the return of some old friends. It was good to see Mike Coram, Tony Hempel, Brian Dash and not forgetting Julie Babes at the Bird in Hand again. Please don’t leave it so long for the next visit.
There were fifteen cars present with only two non-morgans. Mike Warren was concerned about the welcome he would receive, arriving in his new Lotus Elise, after selling his morgan 4/4. Mike, you are most welcome, just make sure you park in a quiet corner of the car park.
Jon Bundeson arrived for his first noggin in a 1973 4/4 that had been turned into a +8. Jon found out about us from our web page; an important success for our Web Master Eric. New members are always welcome. Unfortunately for Jon his 4/4 come +8 developed an electrical fault. However, thanks to the combined efforts of Brian Taylor and the representatives from F.H. Douglass, Jon was soon back on the road.
I must mention Clive and Frederika; arriving at our noggin for the first time, they wrote that they had fulfilled a lifetimes ambition. Of course I could have misunderstood, perhaps their ambition had been really to own a morgan, I can’t think of a better one.
Crispin organised an impromptu scenic run to the Bentley Driver’s meeting. Six morgans made the trip including Jon in his in his 4/4 come +8 that had been repaired at the Bird in Hand two days before. We had an interesting journey to the circuit. At one point a BMW bravely split our group up, before long though the three back marker morgans had overhauled it, as John Sherwood said, “Morgans eat Beamers for breakfast”. On arrival at Silverstone I met Julie Babes wearing a new line in tea shirts as designed by Tony Hempel, and very fetching she looked. I believe Tony will be designing an autumn selection.
Our web site is currently receiving approximately twenty visits a day. From our page access can be gained to the MogSport news letter and other sites of interest; these references are continually updated. We would like more articles from members on any subject social or technical. Eric would also be pleased to post other Centre events and news in addition to those published in Miscellany.
The Sunday noggin managed to be held in the beer garden, in spite of the odd spot of rain. It was wonderful to see Pat and Angie Hadley back in “CrogMog” land. Pat used to be the Centre Secretary before Richard. Richard also made it to the noggin, so we had three Centre Secretaries: past, present, and future. It was also great to see Liz and Paul Burry, I hope you can both come again. Tony couldn’t make it as he was on his way to Greece for a well-earned holiday. Tony prefers the sun of Greece to one of our noggins apparently! I turned up on foot again with my labrador Bobby. Bobby took a particular shine to Jenny and Liz; he takes after his Master.
Our Sunday noggin had been held on the day the World lost Princess Diana. This tragic news was never far from our thoughts. On behalf of the Centre I would like to record our respect and deep grief.
