It is amazing how quickly the summer has flown by, at the time of writing, by my reckoning summer lasted one week here in the UK. One week of thirty something centigrade. I guess that is too hot for open top sports cars if you don’t have air conditioning. Never mind this month we have the Brighton Speed Trials which often enjoys some nice weather. Last time though it did rain a little – fingers crossed for this year.
While on the subject of the Trials, it does coincide with the Brighton Centre or Sex and the City or Sexmog second Sunday noggin. I did wonder if this name came about when Brighton and Hove became a city. So the question, I’m asking, is why not make a weekend of it – come down for the trials, stay over Saturday night and then visit the Sexmog’s noggin on your route home. Another good reason for this plan is that Steve Bridge and family will be down for the weekend to celebrate an important birthday for Steve. Congratulations Steve, we all look forward to celebrating with you over the weekend. Now I know this good restaurant called Prompt Corner....
I hope you will be able to join us over the Brighton Speed Trial weekend, I know Ian Hargrave and his wife will be down for the weekend as an entrant and to spend a little longer in Brighton as described above. It works out quite well as there is plenty to do and see while the trials are on, so any partner that wants to take a break from all those motor bikes and cars can go and see the Royal Pavilion or the Lanes or the many independent shops – there is even a big wheel now like the London Eye. Thinking about it from the top of this wheel you would get some good photographs of the Trials as it is located on the seafront adjacent to Brighton Pier. Let’s hope it is operating on the day. I hope you will come down for what I am sure will be a great weekend. See you there.
For our National Trust visit this month we shall be going to Mottisfont a romantic house and gallery set in beautiful riverside gardens. We shall explore the glorious grounds alongside the River Test with a visit to Mottisfont Abbey and the Gothic remains of the original 13th-century Augustinian priory and the house. Over the years while running the walks, I often brought my little dog Sally, and her Labrador partner Bobby, along. One of her joys was looking around other peoples’ houses – to see what they had I got, I guess. However, I am deeply saddened to report that my beloved Sally has passed away. Sally was a dachshund cross, probably with a Jack Russell. Sally was a brave dog – she once saw off an aggressive Alsatian. I know she had many friends in the Centre and that she will be sadly missed. As a friend said to me, “She had a long and happy life with me”, and thankfully her passing was a peaceful one, by my side. Sally, you will always be in my heart.
