At the time of writing, I was busily preparing for a hectic weekend. First off, I was being helped by Dave Collins of Sexmog to strip down my recherché Roadster Lightweight for the Brighton Speed Trials. We were down to the aero screens with fine weather anticipated. Dave keeps trying to persuade me to change the race seats – they are a tight fit. I offered to attend a spa with him as we worked. However, all those green salads, etc., would be hard to cope with I thought, as I shared some more white chocolate chip cookies with Dave. As always Dave, I do appreciate your help and support. My race seats are quite slimming you know.
The other event that was focusing my mind was Tim Jones’s cerebral trip to Mapledurham. A typical Countdown contestant or even Rachel herself would be an idea companion on this venture; in this vein I was fortunate to be supported by Lucy on this occasion – I was therefore looking forward to the challenge with confidence let alone the lovely cruise on the River Thames. Bearing in mind though that Tim had just informed me that he now had thirty-five people taking part with nineteen Morgan sports cars. A great turn out which should look good in the Bird In Hand car park, commented Tim. I agreed with him as I charged up the battery for my camera. On behalf of the Centre, I would like to thank Tim for his hard work in getting this event on the road taking in the delights of Hurley, Marlow, Sonning, Henley, Reading, Caversham and finally of course Mapledurham with interesting clues to solve and follow. The mill and house at Mapledurham should be great too.
We are returning to our peregrinating this month, as I am pleased to report that George Rust is taking us back to the wonderful National Trust Vyne house, with its beautiful grounds and gardens. George will be our guide round the grounds, woods and lake on Sunday 19th October – please meet in the main car park at 11 am. A visit to the house is possible during the day also. With the clocks going back this month, we inevitably turn to thoughts of Christmas. Andy Doughty is busy organising the Harte and Magpie Christmas Dinner. Andy has tentatively booked Saturday 6th December. Please contact Andy if you would like to book a place – please see details listed under events. The date will hopefully will be confirmed shortly. An immensely enjoyable evening usually capped off with Lynne Doughty’s fun Christmas quiz.
As the Saturdays fall this year in December, a second Christmas dinner at the Bird In Hand would be held too close to Christmas. Hence, it has been proposed that the Bird In Hand Christmas dinner could be held in January. This would avoid the Christmas rush; the popularity of this idea will be surveyed in the Centre soon.
