I am pleased to report that the number fifty badge of our fiftieth anniversary car badges has been sold through an auction to a Centre member. Congratulations to Peter Taylor on your winning bid. Half the monies will go to The British Red Cross, Peter’s charity of choice, while the rest will go to Centre funds. This is a fine badge and it looks good on a Morgan. There are still a few left, so do contact us if you would like one.
We had a great noggin for our welcome return to the Bird In Hand, last month. From now on the First-Thursday-Noggin will be held at the Bird In Hand from 7 pm. For those of you that don’t know it, coming from the Reading direction on the A4, it is a left turn just before a garage in Knowl Hill. It has a large car park – plenty of room for us. When you enter the Bird In Hand, go straight to the bar and we will be in a small area to your right. This is the fourteenth century part of the old coaching inn. It is said to be haunted. I look forward to seeing you there from 7pm onwards.
Last month, ThamesMOG members joined more than 30 other Morgans from various local Centres for a splendid day at the West Tisted Vintage Fly-in. We would like to thank SogMOG for the invite and John Glover for arranging such a lovely and interesting day.
ThamesMOG will be joining many other Centres for the Bentley Drivers Club Race Meeting on Saturday 13th August. The Bentley Drivers Club meeting is a very friendly affair. Families take picnics and sit in the sun or the grandstands to watch the racing, or wonder around the paddock to admire the vintage Bentleys; look at the many variety of race cars; and talk to the drivers. There is usually a large contingency of Morgans from the local centres who park up at Corpse Corner to watch, among other things, two 20 minutes races in the Morgan Challenge a one-make race series: a great day out.
Why not join with Chris Nickless and other ThamesMOG members on Sunday 14th August for the Open Day at The Pitstine Green Museum where you can see a fascinating blend of attractions from the past, based in the once redundant buildings of an old Victorian farm. Nestling in the shadow of Ivinghoe Beacon, it captures the spirit of a bygone age when life was harder but slower than it is today. The museum would appreciate vehicles to arrive prior to 11:00 am and stay until 4:00 pm. In recognition of this request they will grant free museum entrance to the driver and one passenger as their guests.
