As Steve reported in our April newsletter, the Bird In Hand Noggin was honoured with several Morgans with their hoods up. It was raining hard, off and on. Well done – it all adds to the Noggin trophy.
Please don’t forget, ThamesMOG will be visiting The Battle of Britain Bunker at RAF Uxbridge on 25th May. Completed in 1939, the Bunker housed the Operations Room for No.11 Group (Fighter Command) during the Second World War. Located 60 feet underground, the Bunker remained top secret throughout the war and was re-opened alongside an Exhibition Centre in 2018. A guided tour lasting around 1½ hours is included (we are planning this for 2pm) with an entrance fee of £9 or £7 for concessions. The exhibition is very well done and worth some time in addition to the bunker tour. There is a café and ample secure parking on site. Also, this month ThamesMOG member Graham Larby has been offered, on behalf of the club, half-price entry for up to 20 Morgan cars and drivers to the ‘Masters Historic’ race meeting at Brands Hatch on Sunday 28th May. The entry cost is £14 for driver and car and another £14 for a passenger. This old-school circuit has preserved the nostalgia of historic racing with its original layout from the 1960s and is a definite favourite of drivers and fans alike. The Brands GP circuit is both fast and technically challenging for our drivers, with an exciting combination of skilful, entertaining, wheel-to-wheel racing...the way it used to be in the golden era of motorsport! ThamesMOG will exhibit at this year’s Pangbourne Classic Car Show on Saturday 3rd September. ThamesMOG have attended this event ever since it started in 2016. The event is completely free. At previous events over 250 amazing vehicles were on display in the glorious Berkshire sunshine, and raised an amazing £4000 for Charity. Pre-booking is essential. ThamesMOG has now confirmed a block booking to the Aston Martin Heritage Centre for the afternoon of Wednesday 21st June when we will have exclusive access to the collection. A collection of fabulous examples of old, new and concept Aston Martin cars. A photogenic setting of historic automotive importance which will delight any motoring enthusiast. Their '100 years of Le Mans' exhibition is for the whole of June so they should have some extra features on display themed around the race. It's that time of the year again when we ask for your nominations for the Thames Valley Centre's trophies which will be presented at this year's AGM in June. As a Centre we are proud of our awards as they characterize the spirit of our club. Through these awards we aim to facilitate the use and enjoyment of our beloved steeds, in like-minded company. The trophies are all awarded on a calendar year basis, in this case 2022. The Trophies are:
The F. H. Douglass Trophy. Awarded to the owner who has driven the greatest distance in their Morgan(s) during the year. I knew there are a few of you that have made long journeys in your Morgans last year, so why not enter? The Richard Thorne Charity Trophy. Awarded to a member who has used their Morgan as a means of raising money for charity. The Badge Number 1 Trophy. The 35th anniversary car badge number 001, which is mounted on an ash plinth, is awarded to the person who arrives at ThamesMOG Noggins in their Morgan the most times during the year. This trophy is decided by the ThamesMOG committee, by referring to the Noggin attendance books.
