By the time you read this, ThamesMOG will have kicked off its spring events with a Drive It Day trip to Crofton Beam Engines in Wiltshire. The boilers will have been fired up, and the engines in motion, just as they would have been over two centuries ago. Some of their volunteers will have displayed their classic cars alongside our Morgans.
I hope you have all read in April’s Miscellany, ThamesMOG member Richard Cartwright’s article, with photos by David Williams, of our visit to the Caterham Factory. It is always interesting to read about Centres’ visits to different places. Well done, Richard, on an excellently written article. If you feel like putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard to write about one of our events, don't be shy. Get tapping those keys.
We have a busy few months coming up. This month, we are starting with our AGM, then we visit the Aston Hill Centenary Hill Climb, and finally, the Pangbourne Classic Car Show. We will also be joining SwanMOG at the Basingstoke Festival of Transport and the F1 gearbox manufacturer Hewland Engineering. Details of these SwanMOG events can be found on their website.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 1st May from 19:30 for a 20:00 AGM start, at the Bird In Hand. In keeping with recent tradition, the AGM will be a light-hearted and swift affair. This year, after the AGM activities, we are pleased to announce our guest speaker John Waddelove, well know local beekeeper. If you wish to eat before our AGM, contact the Bird-in-Hand this week to reserve a table, and be there by 18:30 to ensure you are served and can comfortably eat your meal before the start of the AGM.
On Saturday 17th May we visit Aston Hill Centenary Hill Climb. It was the scene of some of the country’s most prestigious hill climb events from 1904 to 1925, with many notable drivers and motorcycle riders taking part. In celebration, there will be several events. 10.30-11.30: Vehicles will be flagged from the start. They will follow a three-mile route through Aston Clinton and ascending Aston Hill to the old finish line. After crossing the finish line, the participating cars and motorcycles will enter The Show, where they will form the centrepiece of the Aston Hill vintage and classic vehicle show. This year, the Pangbourne Classic Car Show is held on Saturday 31st May. ThamesMOG has been invited to exhibit at this show. We have attended this event ever since it started in 2016. The event is free for exhibitors. At previous events, over 250 beautiful vehicles were on display in the glorious Berkshire sunshine, and raised an amazing £4000 for Charity.
