July was a busy month, looking to the skies with SogMog at the West Tisted Air Fly-in ( a fly in for mostly vintage aircraft and pilots of a certain age, on the hottest day of the year), and then over 30 members and 18 cars for our tour of the Shuttleworth trust, both fascinating visits. Our feet were firmly on the ground for the Chiltern Open Air Museum Classic Vehicle show. The show had a stunning collection of classic cars and motorcycles, and the chance to walk round the fascinating historic buildings that make up the Open Air Museum. There was also MogFest, of course, where ThamesMog member Nigel came away with more than he expected by willing awards in two categories of the concourse. All that polishing has paid off; you will have to tell us how you manage to keep those wire wheels so clean.
Our busy year continues into August. On Saturday 9th we join with other MSCC centres for the Bentley Drivers Club race meeting at Silverstone. There is usually a large contingent of Morgans parked up at Copse Corner. We look forward to seeing Alan Clark's son Howard in the two Morgan Challenge races.
on Sunday 17th we continue the motor racing these, this time with a tour of hill climb locations. In the Thames Valley area a hundred years ago there were many roads, some unsurfaced, that were used for hill climb events. Our tour will take us up and down the Chiltern Hills, including some of the hills used for sprints and hill climbs in the 1920s, such as Kop Hill and Aston Hill. The tour is about 40 miles long. There will be some wonderful views, and none of the roads are unsurfaced! The tour will end at the Harte and Magpies for Sunday Lunch. Please note that entries must be received by Saturday 9th August.
Later in the same week, on Wednesday 20th, we are visiting NT Nuffield Place. Nuffield place reveals the surprisingly down-to-earth lives of William Morris, later Lord Nuffield and founder of the Morris Motor Company, and his wife, Elizabeth. Their home and personal possessions are just as they left them, the decor and furnishings intact. We plan to arrive at 10am for coffee etc., before taking a guided tour. Morning tours run every 20 minutes, with 8 people on each, starting at 10:30. The house is only open for tour groups during the morning. It is necessary to pre-book to make sure you get a place on the tour.
Finally on Saturday 30th we will be attending the West London Aero club annual charity members day. It is an all day classic car display and air show. There will be food, drinks, children's train rides and various other activities and stalls for families. Details are being arranges as I write this so please check the events page for details.
