At the end of September, ThamesMOG member Howard Clark competed at the Thruxton racetrack in the final two races of the Morgan Challenge season. How did Howard do? I am pleased to be able to tell you that Howard won his class in both the races, meaning that he is the 2025 Class 4 champion. Not only that, but his gross total for the season means that he came second overall in the Morgan Challenge. This is amazing, especially considering he overcame early mechanical woes and finished the season on a high, showcasing how competitive the popular Roadster Lightweight still is after it was introduced to the Championship 20 years ago. Well done, Howard!
The same weekend, the promise of changeable weather did not put off eight Morganeers in five Morgans joining a multi-marque collection of upward of 100 cars at one of the last shows of the year in our part of the world, The West Green House Classic Car Day. We were joined by Andy and Cathy in their beautiful black ‘Batmobile-like’ Aero Supersport, which attracted a lot of attention. We look forward to seeing them and their car again at a future event.
On Sunday, 2nd November, we will be joining SexMog at the Jolly Tanner in Staplefield to watch the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. The Run route covers 60 miles starting in London's Hyde Park, the traditional starting point since 1936. It then winds through the lanes of Surrey and Sussex before finishing on Madeira Drive, Brighton. If you plan to watch it at Staplefield, it is best to arrive before 9 am. Park your Morgans around the village green where the Jolly Tanner and The Victory Inn pubs do a great breakfast. The quickest and simplest way there is via the M25/M23. You can take your time driving home by returning through the delightful Surrey countryside. Alternatively, you can watch the start in London. SmogMog are planning to be at Hyde Park Corner by 7 am, or you could make a day out of it by watching the Run from the finishing line situated on Brighton's Madeira Drive, from 10am onwards.
On Tuesday, the 18th November, we head to Malvern for a tour of the Morgan Motor Company factory. It has been over three years since ThamesMOG last visited the Morgan factory. In that time, some things have changed, and some things haven’t. The new Supersport has arrived and is being built in the factory, and the wooden block that is as old as The Ark is still used to bend the fabricated ash body.
It’s that time of year again, our annual Christmas Lunch is fast approaching. Join us on Saturday, 13th December, from 12 pm to 3 pm at the ever-welcoming Harte & Magpies in Beaconsfield for a festive feast and plenty of cheer.
