It is with great personal sadness that I report the passing of Bert Oslar. Bert and his late wife Shirley were long standing members of the MSCC with many friends in our Centre. Bert and Shirley were very friendly and approachable; they would enjoy welcoming new people to the Centre. Often it was said to me by new members that the first people they met were Bert and Shirley. Over the years they were enthusiastic attendees of our events wherever we ended up. They particularly enjoyed our trips across to France.

There seems to be a trend for having birthdays that either coincide or are near to our first Thursday noggins at the Bird In Hand for one of our Centre colleagues. Back in August it was Mike Smith’s (our communications officer) birthday on the first Thursday. However, this time there was no cake – I did feel sorry for Mike and for me as I do like cake. Still better luck for us next time don’t you think Mike? Happy birthday Mike for last August.

“Let them eat cake,” I thought to myself as I entered the Bird In Hand noggin back in early July. There is some doubt whether Queen Marie Antoinette actually uttered this phrase but Sue Giles certainly didn’t. Kindly, Sue was giving out slices of her recent milestone birthday cake to all at the noggin. And gosh it was delicious. On behalf of the Centre I would like to thank you Sue for the cake while wishing her a belated many happy returns. I hope Sue you had a very happy birthday.

I have the pleasure to report, rather belatedly, a happy event for Denzil Rowe and family. On May 12th, 06:54 am, 2011, Alisha Rowe was born weighing in at 8lb 5oz The late Chris Rowe, a founding member of the Centre and one time editor of Miscellany and Denzil’s father, would be very proud and happy. We now have another third generation of the Rowe family involved with us and the Morgan world in general. Denzil drives Chris’ old four seater: an appropriate vehicle for a family man. At the time of writing (end of April 2011) I was juggling between this report, making my lunch and watching the Royal Wedding. I found the whole ceremony to be both moving and up lifting – one couldn’t help feeling proud to be British. Also, I couldn’t help my moistening eyes and it had nothing to do with the onions I was putting in my stew. Kate was breathtaking of course, that Sarah Burton dress was just perfect and her sister Pipa was wonderful and I liked her outfit too. William looked supportive and ready to accept the heavy responsibilities
