Once again we were lucky enough to be invited to provide a display for the RAF Benson Families day. This is a day of entertainment put on for RAF personnel and their families. It's a sort of fete with added air display. The invitation arrives well in advance of the day but we have to provide a list of those that will attend and we are not given much notice for that. So we got together a small group and awaited further instructions.
When the day came a number had been struck down by illnesses, both human and automotive, and so it was an even smaller group that actually made it to Benson. We were allocated space in hangar so out of any scorching sun and out of any rain. Once we had lined up our "show" we were able to go and enjoy the other things presented.
A number of car clubs had vehicles on display, but nothing approaching the numbers we have seen in past and there were no traction engines or fairground organs. This is a sample of a few
Then there was a static aircraft display including currently serving helicopters and aircraft up to almost 80 years old.
And finally the real entertainment for the afternoon of a flying display. Started with A Red Arrows fly past and including some aircraft from the static display, a Helicopter demonstration and a totally mad aerobatic team.
Those that were there had a great time, as always at these events. All in need of a nap afterwards.
