The Pitstone Museum was a very successful day out. I was not expecting much in the way of Morgans apart from mine, however, we had six Moggies in total and one cancellation due to hot weather.
One advantage of the Pitstone museum is that there is plenty of shade under trees plus some very large old barns with displays of crafts , etc. There were a group of hand bell ringers to entertain us.
The museum has a good collection of Barn engines all chugging away, but pride of place must go to a Crossely single cylinder gas engine manufactured in 1914. It runs so smoothly that they can balance a 20p piece on its side which does not fall over.
Another treat was a tractor and trailer ride across the fields to the Pitstone Windmill, an early 17th century Post windmill owned by the Nat.Trust which was open for visitors. We all piled off the trailer for a guided tour around the mill before climbing back onto it for our return ride back to the museum.
There was a group of ladies demonstrating lace making and another lady with her hand made quilts. There was no shortage of exhibits ranging from a Cobblers work shop, a Blacksmith, an old letterpress printing shop, carpenters, collections of old farm machinery, an old general store full of stuff the you would remember as a youngster when going shopping with your mum I could go on.
I think we shall organise another visit next year.
