May is a busy month for the Thames Valley Centre. In addition to the regular monthly noggins we have a host of events.
Firstly, the 9 pin bowling match against the Marcos club, originally scheduled for May, has been postponed following a double booking by the pub. I will be looking for an alternative venue for later in the year.
On a positive note, the annual Morgan and Marcos Ace Café meeting takes place on 23rd May. This iconic location has become the regular meeting place for many motor and bike clubs. We look forward to enjoying the traditional ‘50s ambiance whilst comparing Morgan to Marcos cars.
The next day, Sunday May 24th, Thames Valley has been offered free entry for up to 30 cars and drivers to the ‘Masters Historic’ race meeting at Brands Hatch. Masters runs its annual Brands Hatch Masters Festival on the 23rd and 24th of May, where the FIA Masters Historic Formula One and FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championships. This offer is for free entry for a car (Morgan) and driver on Sunday May 24th. Passenger tickets will have to be ordered separately from the Brands Hatch website. On May 31st we visit Nuffield Place near Henley, the former home of Lord Nuffield and the founder of the Morris Motor Company. The garden and home are undergoing a restoration back to their former glory. It should be an interesting visit with it important motoring heritage. All centre welcome.
On Thursday 23rd July, we are invited back to RAF Benson for their family day and air show. As before, the organisers at RAF Benson request that all vehicles are to be on site by 10:30. Flying displays start at 12:00. It's OK to leave any time after about 16:00. Only members who have pre-registered will be allowed entry to this event. Early registration of interest would be most appreciated. Please register with David Cleveland (details below). I would like to thank Dave once again for coordinating this marvellous event.
And as an added bonus, on the July 23rd, Mike Aldrich is organising a BBQ for Thursday evening at the Bird In Hand. Therefore, after a day out at RAF Benson, you can join as that evening at the Bird In Hand to round off the day nicely. These events are independent – one can go to both or just one. Please contact Mike Aldrich if you would like to come along. All Centres are welcome to join us for our RAF Benson visit and the BBQ.
As I write this report, spring is certainly in the air and some warm weather is predicted. I hope this will be the case as the Thames Valley calendar deserves some nice seasonal conditions – I look forward to seeing you all out and about.
