The delayed annual Classic Car Show at West Green House had a great turn out, with ThamesMOG and some neighbouring centre members attending. It was the fourth time of asking, as it had been postponed on three previous occasions due to poor weather. So it was good to see the Morgans present a fine show on a lovely sunny autumn day, where over 50 classic cars were on display. Everyone had an enjoyable time looking at the classics, wandering through the winter colours in the West Green gardens, and seeing so many children dressed up in Halloween costumes.
ThamesMOG joined with other Morgan centres to watch this year's London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, at Staplefield. The day before was very wet and windy, typical of this November, perhaps this was why there were fewer Morgans spectators than usual. We were sorry to learn of the death of a veteran car driver who had unfortunately found his way onto the M23 be mistake. We send our sincere condolences to the family and friends for their tragic loss on that day.
We are not having a National Trust visit in December, but we will return to these in the New Year.
Don’t forget that this month, being December, our lunchtime Noggin at the Harte & Magpies is on the 15th of the month, a week earlier than usual.
If you are at a lose-end on New Year’s Day, why not join an impromptu car show at The Phoenix Inn, Hartley Whitney. This is an informal gathering with plenty of vintage and classic vehicles and hot rods. No specific start or finish just roll up and see who's there.
Please don’t forget our anniversary year is fast approaching. To kick off we have our annual dinner in January. David Williams has organised a rather special guest speaker, Dave Main, who will talk about his Peking – Paris rally run in a 30's US doctor's car.
As this is the December edition of Miscellany, I would like to thank everyone that has organised a Thames Valley Event this year, and also everyone that has supported them through your attendance. Coming along to our jollies makes everything worthwhile for the organiser. Also, I would like to wish all readers of this column a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year with above all good health and happiness.
