I don’t believe our founders could have predicted that our fiftieth anniversary noggin would have been held via a computer in a video call. Back then it would have been science fiction. It was an enjoyable evening and I would like to thank everyone who joined in. Many thanks to David Williams for facilitating the Zoom and for Dave Cleveland for the coordination of what ThamesMOG has entitled a ‘Login Noggin’. We plan to continue with this approach of using Zoom for our Noggins in the next few months. Nevertheless, let’s hope in the near future we can meet in person.
Recently, David Williams visited the Bell and Bottle, the venue of our First-Thursday Noggins, where he photographed some beautiful images looking towards the horizon at dawn. One featuring a tree was quite breath-taking, I hope it will be seen in Miscellany. For us, these pictures represent a dawn for our next fifty years.
The lockdown rules are changing continually, and at the time of writing they seem to becoming more restrictive again. The ThamesMOG Management Committee will review our noggins and events day to day. As this is the December edition of Miscellany, I would like to thank everyone who has organised a ThamesMOG event this year, and everyone who has supported them through their attendance. Being able to meet-up makes things worthwhile for the organiser. In particular I was so pleased that Christopher Nickless arranged ThamesMOG’s 50th anniversary trip to Wales was such an enjoyable event in bright sunshine, great company, in a beautiful setting. This was slipped in between lockdowns – I think you were all blessed.
I would like to wish all readers of this column a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year with above all good health and happiness. Let’s hope 2021 will be a better year for us all.
