I am grateful to Steve Bridge for his kind invitation to the Brighton Speed Trials. We had India summer type weather which can often happen at this tremendous event. Two Morgans were competing: a rebuilt Roadster Lightweight and a four seater with a well sorted cross-flow engine. We spoke to both of the competitors. The roadster owner was Tom Purves who turned out to be a good friend of one of Steve’s friends. Tom being on the board of the MSA was a most interesting person to ask about the potential changes coming in the future to our beloved motorsport. We didn’t catch the times for the four-four, but we did learn Tom managed well 100 miles per hour terminal speed on his last timed run: a great achievement. Remember that the event is a timed sprint for a standing quarter of a mile along Madeira Drive, on Brighton seafront. It was great to see both of Morgan competitors in action.
By the time you will be reading this, ThamesMOG will have attended the West Green House Classic Car Show which annually hosts over 200 cars, plus our Two Dealer Day where we visited SGT and BHM. I hope that sun shown on you, and that you all had uneventful journeys.
We also had another great turn out at our First-Thursday evening Noggin at The Bell and Bottle AKA the Javatri Restaurant, Littlewick Green. Unfortunately, one of our members had a breakdown only around a mile from home. The breakdown service turned out to be appalling, shockingly so. I’m sure the details will be shared at a future noggin.
Chris Nickless’ continues to have great support at the Harte and Magpie noggin on the Third Sunday lunchtime. Many of our new members come from around this area and they are most welcome to join this enjoyable meet.
As another reminder, don’t forget, on September 12 next year – yes 2022 - Chris will be taking us back to mid-Wales for a repeat of the fantastic trip we had last year. As before, if you would like to go, I would recommend you contact Chris as soon as possible. He has booked the accommodation there and it would be nice to fill it with Morgan sports cars. Details below.
Due to Covid restrictions, we have had to postpone a number of events this year with the hope of running them in 2022. With this in mind we shall be publishing a calendar soon to relaunch these events – please watch this space.
On the communications front, I have changed internet provider and I now only have a mobile number with no landline. Please contact me only on my mobile or email. Apparently, in the next few years all analogue landlines will end, with enhanced digital and video services coming along, I’m just a little ahead of the game.
The rules for how we handle things with regard the pandemic situation are still changing continually and the ThamesMOG Management Committee are still regularly reviewing our noggins and events.
