This month I was pleased to hear Richard Cartwright and Paul Williams accepted the challenge set by Machiel Kalf’s to recreate old photographs taken of a MSCC event in Windsor End, Beaconsfield Old Town in 1952 and in front of The Royal Saracen’s Head. I have seen the new photos, and they compare very well with those taken over seventy years ago. Well done to you both. We can expect to read a full write-up in Miscellany soon.
Our events have continued into September with visits varying from the Winchmore Hill Village Show to the Kop Hill Climb, and the ever popular West Green House Classic Car Show. There was a strong turnout for our Sunday Lunch-Time Noggin at the Harte and Magpies. ThamesMoggers were blessed for the first time this year with fine weather for their September First-Thursday Noggin. We were able to sit outside and exchange tales of the various Morgan trips we made through the summer. Some had raced Porsches along German autobahns, others had been to Denmark, Poland and France. What a busy and adventurous bunch we are!
Looking ahead, once again, in what has been a busy year, there is the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on Sunday 5th November. You could decide to watch the Veterans Car Run by joining SexMog at the Jolly Tanner in Staplefield. Park your Morgans around Staplefield village green where the Jolly Tanner and The Victory Inn pubs do a great breakfast. If you plan to watch it there it is best to arrive before 9 am. The quickest and simplest way from Reading is via the M25/M23. You can take your time driving home by returning through the delightful Surrey countryside. Alternatively, you can watch the start in London. SmogMog are planning to be at Hyde Park Corner by 7 am, or you could make a day out of it by watching the Run from the finishing line situated on Brighton's Madeira Drive, from 10am onwards.
