It is great meeting up with our sole surviving founding member, as far as I know, of our Centre at our First-Thursday Noggin at the Bird In Hand, Knowl Hill. Last month Dave Byer showed us his article in Classic Sports Car Magazine. He is selling an early Morgan Three Wheeler and a Plus 8 from the seventies but without an engine. Join with SexMOG and other Centres to watch the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run on Sunday 5th November. In the past, MSCC members have watched the Run from The Jolly Tanners at Staplefield. However, this pub has changed hands and will be closed for redevelopment until the New Year. SexMog have found us a new venue for the event: The Jack and Jill Inn at Clayton BN6 9PD. This at the bottom of the notorious (to veterans) Clayton Hill. Many veterans stop at the pub to prepare themselves and the car for the climb. Details of the pub are at http://www.thejackandjillinn.co.uk for those of us who are interested in railways; the pub is adjacent to the beautiful but notorious Clayton Tunnel. The pub will open at 10:30 am for bacon rolls, coffee, tea and toilets. They do an excellent lunch but it is essential to book in. Phone 01273 843595 and say you’re with the Morgan Club. Our preferred time for lunch is 1pm and they will try to seat us all together in their annexe.
Veteran cars leave Hyde Park at 7 am (oldest first) and should be passing Clayton from 9 am onwards. I anticipate you will need to be at the pub early in order to get a parking space. We are not the only car club attending. If you plan to watch it there it is best to arrive before 9 am. The quickest and simplest way from Reading is via the M25/M23. You can take your time driving home by returning through the delightful Surrey countryside. Alternatively, you can watch the start in London. SmogMog are planning to be at Hyde Park Corner by 7 am, or you could make a day out of it by watching the Run from the finishing line situated on Brighton's Madeira Drive, from 10am onwards.
