As I write this, 25 ThamesMOG members are preparing their Morgans, and packing their bags, for our Centre’s trip to Llanerchindda Farm in Carmarthenshire. They will be staying for four nights during which time they will have been on two organised scenic tours and had one day free for free-roaming. This is our third visit here, so you can tell we really enjoy it there. On Thursday 2nd May we held our 2024 AGM as part of our first Thursday Noggin at the Bird in Hand. It was good that there was such a large turnout at our AGM. AGMs can be quite dry events, and I know that some of you thought the proceedings would go on for an hour or so. I hope you found ours to be light-hearted yet informative, and we completed the formal part of the meeting without it dragging on. I would like to thank everyone that attended. It certainly feels warmer days are coming, eventually. This is just in time for the busy season we have ahead. As described below. Our monthly Noggins continue to be held during the winter, and we are pleased to see a lively turn out of members at The Bird in Hand on the first Thursday of every month, and The Harte and Magpies for lunch on the third Sunday of every month. Our members have had some adventurous tours this summer: some have had a road trip of over 2,500 miles through Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland; whilst others drove to Le Mans where their Morgan took part in a display at Mulsanne Corner prior to this year’s 24 Hours race. I wonder how they managed with temperatures approaching 40 centigrade in some places. I popped down to Aquitaine, in the past I have travelled mostly by train or plane. It may have taken 10 hours but the roads were really good with no traffic jams. I guess everyone could have

It seems our first Thursday noggin at the Bird In Hand tends to fall on significant historic events. In June it was the 80th Anniversary of D-Day and last month the General Election. I suspect everyone rushed home from the noggin to see the exit polls. What the future will bring, only time will tell.June was a busy month, with the Pangbourne Classic Car Show, and our trip to The Museum of Water & Steam at Kew plus The Chesham Motor Show (Best of Italian vs Best of British); and The Yattendon Classic Vehicle Day. July was just as busy.

On Thursday 6th June, the date of our June 24 First-Thursday noggin was the day services of respect, remembrance and commemoration for all of those involved in D-Day – 80 years ago – on 6th June 1944.  I was fortunate enough to be at a service that evening. It was particularly poignant as in attendance was an 102 year old veteran and he gave the Kaphima Epitaph. It was an honour to be in his presence. In the early hours of D-Day, 24,000 paratroopers and glider-borne troops landed behind German lines to provide tactical support. Our very own Terry Tedman
