I hope wherever our members were to watch the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run had an enjoyable dry time. It appeared the weather had changed for the better, although, on the day, nearer to home there was heavy rain, to begin with at least. It is great meeting up with our sole surviving founding member, as far as I know, of our Centre at our First-Thursday Noggin at the Bird In Hand, Knowl Hill. Last month Dave Byer showed us his article in Classic Sports Car Magazine. He is selling an early Morgan Three Wheeler and a Plus 8 from the seventies but without an engine. This month I was pleased to hear Richard Cartwright and Paul Williams accepted the challenge set by Machiel Kalf’s to recreate old photographs taken of a MSCC event in Windsor End, Beaconsfield Old Town in 1952 and in front of The Royal Saracen’s Head. Last month I mention the return of a member from our formation noggin back in 1970. Well, during our noggin at the Bird In Hand, I had the pleasure of meeting David Byer. David is our surviving foundation member. As I chatted with him, I recalled that we had met some years ago at a Nettlebed Sunday noggin. Some years ago, I had the pleasure of chatting to Arthur Neal about the formation of our club. I ascertained that he and Chris Rowe had thought it would be good to form a Centre west of London. Until then they had attended London Centre. Imagine in those days there was no congestion charge or ULEZ. Petrol was getting a little more expensive but not excessively so as it is now. On Thursday 1st June we held our 2023 AGM as part of our first Thursday Noggin at the Bird in Hand. It was good that there was such a large turnout at our AGM. AGMs can be quite dry events, and I know that some of you thought the proceedings would go on for an hour or so. I hope you found ours to be light-hearted yet informative, and we completed the formal part of the meeting without it dragging on. I would like to thank everyone that attended.
